Finding Your Ideal Editor For Your Podcast

When you start a business you will hear business coaches ask you to describe your, "ideal client". They want to know what kind of client you want to serve. The same thing applies when it comes to finding yourself a podcast editor. My name is Julie Deem and I am sharing inside tips about how to find the perfect editor for your podcast.

✴ I was recently a guest on "The Podcast Party," discussing things that we wished podcasters knew.

In this episode we break down everything from:

Hiring a podcast editor:

- When you are ready to outsource your podcast, the process of securing an editor can be overwhelming. I recommend searching for accounts on Instagram. Instagram is my platform of choice because you can find a variety to choose from. Once you find a podcast editor that you you’re interested in working with, send them a message. Most podcast editors would be happy to chat with you and share their process.

Working with an editor:

- Now that you’ve connected with an editor it is important to maintain communication. When I am working with clients I want to know if an episode does not meet their standards. It is easier to work things out with your editor than it is to hunt for a new one.

- Make sure you understand what goes into editing a podcast episode from start to finish. In the podcast episode we broke down our processes find out more there (including why we unanimously agreed that Descript is a major time saver):

- Descript is software that converts files for editors. We can do things like convert an mp4 video file quickly into an mp3 or wav audio file. There are also many cool features within the program. For example, my favorite feature is to, “remove filler words”. Descript will actu- ally go through a delete the “uhms” with a click of a button.

***Bonus Descript will even transcribe your audio for you with 95% average accuracy, making it easier to add closed captioning for videos or show notes.
